About This Video
In the early days of World War II, one airplane ruled the skies completely: the Mitsubishi A6M Zero.
This fighter jet was an absolute masterpiece of lightweight engineering. It could fly incredibly far and easily out-turn any American plane in the air. For Allied pilots, encountering a Zero in a close dogfight usually meant game over. It was fast, agile, and seemingly impossible to shoot down.
But to make the Mitsubishi A6M Zero the ultimate aerial weapon, its creators made a dangerous sacrifice. To keep the plane incredibly light, they completely removed the heavy pilot armor and protective fuel tanks. The Zero was untouchable—until it actually got hit. Just a few bullets could turn this legendary fighter into a fireball. Once Allied forces captured one and discovered this hidden weakness, the tide of the war changed forever.
