About This Video
Everyone knows the Spitfire dominated the skies during World War II. But what happens when you try to land that legendary aircraft on a moving ship? ✈️⚙️
The Royal Navy needed a high-performance fighter built for the brutal reality of aircraft carriers. Enter the Supermarine Seafire. To turn a land-based interceptor into a naval weapon, aerospace engineers had to reinforce its fragile airframe, add a heavy arrestor hook, and install folding wings to save precious hangar space.
Powered by the monstrous Rolls-Royce Merlin and Griffon engines, the Seafire could out-climb almost any naval fighter of its era. But defying its original physics came at a cost. The incredibly narrow landing gear made touching down on a pitching deck notoriously difficult, even for veteran pilots. It was fragile on the deck, but an absolute apex predator in the sky. 🛡️
Do you think the Seafire was better than the American F4U Corsair? Let’s debate below! 👇
