— Sunset Arrival: Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-271NX on Final Approach
There are moments in aircraft spotting when everything comes together at the right time: the light, the aircraft, the angle, and the atmosphere. This photo captures one of those moments.
I photographed this Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-271NX on final approach during sunset, using my Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera paired with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS II lens. The image was taken at 200 mm, with camera settings of f/10, 1/1250 sec, ISO 200, and 0 EV exposure compensation. These settings helped me freeze the aircraft clearly while keeping enough depth and detail in the frame.
The fading daylight created a soft and dramatic background, while the aircraft appeared with its landing gear extended, calmly descending toward the runway. The long fuselage of the Airbus A321neo, the elegant sharklets, and the distinctive Turkish Airlines tail design made the scene even more impressive.
As the aircraft lined up for landing, the evening light highlighted the shape of the narrow-body jet and gave the photo a calm but powerful feeling. The 200 mm focal length allowed me to capture the aircraft with a clean side profile, while the fast shutter speed preserved the motion and sharpness of the final approach.
For me, this shot represents the beauty of aviation photography: patience, timing, and the excitement of capturing an aircraft at exactly the right second. The Airbus A321-271NX is not only a modern and efficient aircraft, but also a very photogenic subject, especially during approach in golden-hour light.
