About This Video

When the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 entered European skies in 1941, it brought a new level of engineering to aerial combat.

Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw 190 was built for ultimate durability. Instead of a fragile frame, it was a rugged aircraft made to survive heavy damage. A 1,600-horsepower BMW radial engine powered the fighter. Because it used air cooling rather than vulnerable liquid systems, it was incredibly tough to shoot down.

The true innovation was the Kommandogerät. This advanced mechanical computer automatically managed fuel, engine mixture, and propeller pitch with one single lever. As a result, pilots could focus entirely on their mission.

Armed with multiple 20mm cannons, it stood as a formidable challenger to Allied fighters and heavy bombers. Today, it remains a defining milestone in WWII aerospace engineering.
