About This Video

Did you know that the two greatest enemies of World War II actually flew for the exact same team?

The British Supermarine Spitfire and the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 were engineered specifically to destroy each other in the skies over Europe. But history has a crazy sense of humor! Only TWO countries in world history officially operated both of these legendary fighters at the exact same time, sharing the exact same airbases.

One nation achieved this diplomatic miracle right in the middle of World War II to maintain absolute neutrality—buying Fw 190s from Germany while simultaneously receiving Spitfires from Great Britain. The second country did it right after the war ended, utilizing captured enemy airframes alongside their allied fighters.

It is the most unique fighter squadron combination in aerospace history!

Can you guess which two countries pulled this off? Drop your answers in the comments below!
